What is You Go First?
You Go First is a set of Christian conversation starters designed for the dinner table, road trips, and anywhere families gather. Each card asks a question that invites a story, a laugh, or a moment of faith. Some cards are silly, like imagining your family just adopted a pet giraffe. Others go deeper, like asking what you would say if Jesus came to dinner.
The name comes from the simple idea at the heart of the game: when a parent or grandparent answers first, everyone else feels safe to open up.
What's inside the box
Every box includes 150 conversation cards and an instruction card. The cards are split across five playful categories and shuffled together, so every round is different.
1. Tell Me More
Share a personal story or memory. Example: "What is one family memory you wish you could relive?"
2. Pick One
Choose between two fun scenarios. Example: "Would you rather watch David face Goliath or Moses part the Red Sea?"
3. Imagine That
Dream out loud about a fun family or faith scenario. Example: "Jesus is coming to dinner. What would you want to ask Him?"
4. Around the Table
Everyone at the table answers. Example: "Everyone, share one high and one low from your day."
5. Give It a Go
Put generosity into practice using the 7 Ways of Living Generously: thoughts, words, time, attention, influence, money, and belongings. Example: "What is one way our family could be generous this week without spending any money?"
How to play You Go First
- Grab a seat. Gather your family, friends, or group.
- Pull a card. Read it out loud.
- Go first. The reader answers, or passes it to someone else.
- Let everyone share. Ask a follow-up if a story is just getting good.
There are no points, no winners, and no perfect answers. Anyone can pass a card.
Who is You Go First for?
- Families who want more than "How was your day?" "Fine."
- Grandparents who want to really know their grandkids.
- Small groups and youth groups that need an easy icebreaker.
- Kids ministry and homeschool families looking for faith-filled, screen-free activities.
- Anyone shopping for a Christian gift that brings people together.
How is You Go First different from other conversation cards?
Most conversation card decks are designed to pass the time. You Go First is designed to shape a family. Here's what sets it apart:
- It's rooted in faith. Cards weave in the Bible, prayer, and Jesus alongside everyday questions.
- It teaches generosity. The Give It a Go category turns conversations into action using the 7 Ways of Living Generously.
- It works across generations. Questions are written so a 6-year-old and a grandparent can answer the same card.
- It mixes silly and deep. Five categories shuffled together keep kids engaged and give room for meaningful moments.
What families are saying
